The Tower

While the turbine does all the hard work, the importance of tower selection shouldn’t be overlooked. As wind speed and turbulence are both more favourable higher up, taller towers can bring real benefits. They might be more costly, but they nearly always increase the return on investment.

In some areas, the planners may impose a restriction on taller towers. This is more likely in National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Although it is common elsewhere in the world for small scale turbines to be mounted on 100' towers (30m), SIAC Wind Energy can offer a range of different heights for Bergey turbines ranging from 15m - 40m :

• Free standing lattice towers. These use considerably less ground space than a guyed tower.
• Free standing monopole towers. These use less space than a lattice tower , but are typically more expensive.
• Tilting towers. These are available for the smallest towers - below 18m.  The tilting may be via gin-pole or hydraulic.

SIAC Wind Energy supplies lattice towers for Bergey turbines manufactured by the SIAC Group at its own steel fabrication unit. All SIAC towers are engineered to satisfy the specific turbine characteristics across the complete scale of wind conditions.
