The SIAC Process
SIAC can help you set up a successful wind energy system. Here are the key steps for progressing with a project for a small scale wind turbine:Desk Top Evaluation. The first stage is to establish whether you’re in a good location for wind energy. Our calculator’s a good place to start. You can see the effects of tower height and your expected power generation.
Site Survey and selection. If the project seems feasible, we’ll happily undertake a free site visit and detailed survey to assess turbine location and access conditions. For marginal sites, we might recommend an extended period of wind testing just to make sure.
Quotation. We’ll base our quote on factors such as desired tower height, cable run and grid connection (ie single-phase or 3-phase) and you can secure this with a deposit.
Planning Permission. You can do this yourself, or we have a network of experienced regional consultants on hand to help process the application for a nominal fee.
Grid Application. You will need to apply for grid connection via your local electricity company. We can help you through the application paperwork.
Funding. A range of options are available. We’re happy to introduce the services of our independent finance partners.
Confirmation. Once you’ve received planning permission, we’ll re-confirm our quotation (there may be some changes as a result of the planning process). At this time, we’ll give you an estimated timescale for delivery and installation.
Ordering. If you’re ready to proceed, we’ll ask you to sign the contract and make an initial payment.
Site Preparation. This includes laying concrete foundations for the tower and potentially digging the trench for the electrical cable. You can do this yourself on the understanding that we must witness the concrete pour, or you can call on our construction expertise.
Delivery. We’ll deliver all the equipment on the day of installation, as close to 9.00am as possible.
Installation. This involves a number of different specialisms. We’re able to project manage the whole process for you.
Electrical Connection. The system needs to be connected to the Grid. For some types of connection, it may have to be witnessed by your local electricity company.
Commissioning & Handover. Once all the elements are in place the turbine will be commissioned and will start to generate power.
Tariff. Once you’ve registered the installation for the appropriate tariff, you can start earning income, as well as saving money on your electricity bills.
