Metering

The tariff you receive is based on the measured output of the system, and this is obtained through metering.

There are three energy flows (generation, import and export).

All consumers have an import meter, used to calculate their electricity bills. Some of these can also measure the exports back to the grid or the net difference.

A generation meter is included as part of any eligible renewable system installed. The whole country is changing over to 'Smart Meters' in the next few years, and they will be able to cope with all metering requirements. (To prevent the need for installing an additional export meter before Smart Meters are introduced, you are able to 'deem' exports as 50% of the system’s total generation. If you believe your exports will be higher, you will be allowed to install suitable export meters. You will then be paid on the metered level of exports).

Reading the meters

Arrangements for meter readings differ between suppliers, but typically they either make a site visit or ask you to provide readings quarterly. When ‘Smart Meters’ are introduced, everything can be done remotely.

Power monitoring

For the Bergey 10kW turbine connected single phase, the standard inverter specification is the Powersync II Inverter configured specifically for UK grid connections.  A remote monitoring device can be seperately purchased which wirelessly provides live internet monitoring of the turbine production and inverter health....PS2Tap.
